Shari Rowe is offering up some positive light during hard times in her new song, “The Heavy,” premiering exclusively on Sounds Like Nashville today. In the track, Rowe acknowledges the fact that everyone goes through hard times, and the inspiring lyrics are meant to encourage people to spread positivity and “be the light in the heavy.”

“We wrote ’The Heavy’ to inspire,” she tells Sounds Like Nashville.  “We can all relate. Getting that news, feeling that pain, losing sleep over the things we see in the world, grieving the loss of loved ones. ‘The Heavy’ comes into our lives in many ways, and is almost always unexpected. We have the power to lighten the load for each other. We all have opportunities, big or small, to be the light.”

The lyrics, which urge listeners to “be a spark in the dark for the ones who can’t” and “be a house in the harbor leadin’ to the land,” are paired with guitar and percussion-heavy instrumentation that supports the encouraging message. For Rowe, the song is especially poignant right now, as this year has seen heavy times for many people.

“Recording the song was emotional, because I was thinking about so many people that I care about,” she says. “Releasing the song now, during a time that carries an unprecedented amount of heaviness, I feel so passionate about this message being heard. Kindness, tenderness, generosity, love, forgiveness…there are so many ways to be the light. We need it now, more than ever.”
