Country singer Stoney LaRue was arrested in Oklahoma City on Monday morning (7/20) for allegedly pushing his girlfriend down a flight of apartment stairs, Reuters reports.

According to records, LaRue had been out drinking with a female friend until 4 a.m. on Monday. He and the friend arrived home intoxicated and making a lot of noise. That’s when Amanda Winsworth, his girlfriend of three years, woke up and decided to go sleep in her car.

Shortly before 7 a.m., Winsworth woke up and went inside to get ready for the day. LaRue allegedly woke up to the sound of her hairdryer. He became angry and reportedly threw several items, including her makeup and curling iron, down the stairs. Police say when Winsworth leaned over to grab her belongings, he pushed her and she went head first down the stairs.

LaRue, whose full legal name is Stoney LaRue Phillips, was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail and later released on bond.

He later issued a statement to his fans, family, and friends to apologize for the incident.

“I want to apologize to my family, my friends and my fans for the recent circumstances that have come to light,” he wrote. “I am going to take some time to work on myself. I will be entering an intensive and extensive program, and I appreciate your thoughts and good wishes for me during this trying time. Please check my website and Facebook page for updates on my upcoming tour dates, but most importantly, I appreciate your support during this time.”

His girlfriend, however, took to Twitter to deny that he struck her.
