Taylor Swift Stuns With Peaceful Performance of ‘betty’ on ACM Awards

Taylor Swift left her heart on the stage at the 2020 ACM Awards with a peaceful performance of “betty.” The global superstar made her first return to the ACM Awards since her last appearance in 2013.

The live performance was a return to her old form, as the singer was perched on a stool in the middle of the Grand Ole Opry stage with a guitar in hand and lyrics pouring from her heart. A single spotlight illuminated behind her as she carried us through the love story of characters Betty and James. Accented by a whimsical harmonica player, Swift whisked us off into the romantic world she created, establishing a moody atmosphere that was complimented by her gentle vocals as she sang “In the garden, would you trust me/If I told you it was just a summer thing?/I’m only seventeen, I don’t know anything/But I know I miss you.”

“betty” is one of the many buzzed about and beloved songs off Swift’s wildly popular new album folklore. After spending six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Swift tied the record with Whitney Houston for spending the most cumulative weeks at No. 1 for a female artist.

The 55th Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Keith Urban, are live from Nashville tonight (9/16) on CBS at 8/7c.
