Taylor Swift is ‘Really, Really Excited’ to Perform Opening Number at The GRAMMYs

Music’s Biggest Night, the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards, will soon be underway live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Taylor Swift is not only celebrating her nominations and a performance slot, the superstar is slated to open up the show. It’s an honor she doesn’t take lightly.

“Opening up the GRAMMYs, I’m very aware of what a big deal this is,” she told Detroit’s WYCD. “I’ve never opened the GRAMMYs before. So who knows what that’ll be like. Any time you get to experience something for the first time in your career, it’s really exciting.”

The “Begin Again” singer put a lot of thought into what she’ll be performing. She chatted with Ryan Seacrest earlier this week and hinted at what song she plans to sing. “I think you should perform the song that’s nominated. Like, if you got a song nominated for Record of the Year, you might as well perform that. It’s a big hint.” (Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” happens to be nominated for Record of the Year.)

Swift, who is also nominated for three GRAMMYs, has been working on her performance for quite some time and was thoroughly surprised when she found out she would open. “A week ago they call us and they’re like ‘Oh, by the way you’re opening the show,'” said Swift. “So it’s not like they approach you and say, ‘Listen, let’s do a big opening performance thing,’ it just kind of surprised me that I was gonna go first. But I’m really, really excited about it.”

But, her performance isn’t the only thing she’s looking forward to. “I’m excited about all of it,” she said. “They have parties the night before, you get to see all these performances.” And then, she says, the day of the show, “you get to see your favorite artists. I’ll get to see The Civil Wars, with whom I’m nominated with, twice.”
