Country’s favorite pop icon, Taylor Swift, shares the lead in nominations at this year’s 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, while breakout artist Lil Nas X takes country rap to the next level.

Swift has pulled in 10 nods heading into the VMAs — including Video of the Year (for “You Need to Calm Down”), Song of the Year (“You Need to Calm Down”) and Best Collaboration (for “ME!” featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco). She’s tied for the lead with superstar diva Ariana Grande, who also has as astounding 10 nominations.

Meanwhile, Lil Nas X and his “Old Town Road” remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus — likely to go down as the song of the summer — have garnered recognition in no less than eight categories. He’s up for Best New Artist, along with Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Art Direction.

“Old Town Road” also ties the record for most consecutive weeks at No.1 on Billboard’s all-genre Hot 100 chart, joining Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” and Mariah Carey with Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” with 16 weeks on top.

The fan voted 2019 MTV Video Music Awards air Monday, August 26, from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Get more info and see the complete list of nominees here.
