Taylor Swift Tops iTunes Charts with ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ Releases Lyric Video

Taylor Swift’s new single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” topped the iTunes all-genre sales chart just hours after hitting the web Monday evening. The song is the lead single from Swift’s highly anticipated fourth studio album Red, which hits stores October 22.

“I was writing it with Max Martin and Johan Shellback, who are two of my absolute songwriting heroes,” Swift said in an interview on today’s “Good Morning America” of the story behind the song. “Then this guy walks in who was a friend of my ex’s and starts talking about he’s heard we’re getting back together, and that was not the case. When he [left], Max and Johan were like, ‘Well, what’s the story behind that?’ I [told] them the story of this ‘breakup, get back together, breakup, get back together’ – just the worst. I picked up a guitar and Max said, ‘This is what we’re writing.'”

Today, Swift released a “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” lyric video on Vevo (check it out below). The track officially hits radio August 20.
