And the Top 13 became the Top 11 during the most recent elimination round on NBC’s The Voice.

Since it is a singing competition show, though, what would be the point of investing an entire hour of fans weren’t going to get to hear some music. On this particular night, though, it wasn’t just those insanely talented competitors stepping up to the mic. Coaches Kelly Clarkson and Gwen Stefani stepped on stage with their respective remaining team members to perform a group number.

But well before those performances took place, viewers learned that the lone country artist on the show, Jake Hoot, was the most-streamed artist during the previous night’s competition. However, that doesn’t always mean that singer is safe.

The first three artists who would continue on in the competition are:

MARYBETH BYRD – Team Legend

HELLO SUNDAY – Team Kelly

ROSE SHORT – Team Gwen

The first musical selection of the evening went to Coach Gwen and her girls Myracle Holloway, Joana Martinez and Rose Short. It seemed fitting that this all-female group took on the monster hit from Lizzo, “Good as Hell.”

The next artists who were announced to continue on in the competition are:

KAT HAMMACK – Team Blake

KATIE KADAN – Team Legend

JAKE HOOT – Team Kelly

MYRACLE HOLLOWAY – Team Gwen

RICKY DURAN – Team Blake

Coach Kelly was up next with her extremely diverse team of Max Boyle, Hello Sunday, Jake Hoot and Shane Q. And with that kind of versatility, they chose a song that showed off each of their strongest skills — “Linger” by the Cranberries.

The final two who automatically move on to the Top 11 are:

WILL BREMAN – Team Legend

SHANE Q – Team Kelly

First up, performing for a chance at the Instant Save was:

CALI WILSON (Team Blake) – “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac

John: “I love this. I feel like you’ve shown a lot of different sides of you as a performer, but I love this side. I love the fire you had behind this performance and I think it was a great song choice. It was really well done, Cali.”

Blake: “Cali, I have absolutely no doubt that every decision that I’ve made along the way moving you forward was the right decision. You deserve to be here. That performance tonight proves that you deserve to be here. Every time you step on the stage, you give it every single thing you have.”

The next performing singing for the Instant Save was:

MAX BOYLE (Team Kelly) – “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

John: “I’m a little biased because Max was on my team and I love Max. You’ve shown us throughout this competition just all the parts of your voice that are so cool and so interesting and you showed us that again tonight. You’re such a gifted singer and so soulful and so tasteful in everything you do. It was a joy to watch you tonight.”

Kelly: “I told you this right when I ran up to the stage, I’m super shocked. I did not think you would be here tonight, but take it as an opportunity. You got to sing another song for America, another song for managers, another song for anybody watching. and you took the stage and you did your best and I think you’re so talented.”

The final performer competing for the Instant Save was:

JOANA MARTINEZ (Team Gwen) – “Superwoman” by Alicia Keys

John: “What I love about you in just the way you carried yourself throughout this entire competition is how much poise you have. You are so young, I think you’re the youngest next to Hello Sunday left in the competition and you just keep coming up here and delivering every time you come up here, and your range is so big and so powerful. What an impressive young lady you are.”

Gwen: “I came up to her right before this and I was like, ‘You got this,’ I was coaching, but I didn’t know it was going to be that incredible. That was mind-blowing. America, she is so fearless. At her age, I can’t even understand it. We just performed together and to be up there and see how strong she is, I’m so honored to be your coach. It’s incredible.”

The coaches were offered the opportunity to make some final comments before the results were announced:

Blake told Cali, “You know, Cali, this business is so weird, especially on this show. It’s a song by song competition. I don’t know what’s going to happen tonight. I don’t have a crystal ball, none of us do. And I don’t know what’s going to happen moving forward, but that’s exactly why you gotta keep doing this no matter what happens tonight. I believe in you, a lot of people believe in you. You don’t know what’s going to happen, none of us know what is going to happen, but I promise you, you are doing what you were born to do and that’s make music.”

Kelly told Max, “Once again, I’m just really shocked that you’re here. I didn’t see that happening. I wasn’t even worried, but the thing is, I did tell y’all, this is a very talented season. All these singers are very talented, y’all are all talented on stage and everyone is going home at some point until the very end. That’s just the name of the game. But I will tell you, you are one of those vocalists I would die to do a duet with. you have such a great voice, you can do anything that is asked of you. And no matter what happens right now, you can come sing with me in Vegas at my residency any time you want.”

Gwen told Joana, “Joana, anyone knows, that watches the show, that my dream was to work with somebody like you. It has been incredible. I think that tonight, right now, was the first moment I realized how talented you are. You are mind-blowing. I almost feel like I need to get your autograph. It is shocking how talented you are. It actually does make me feel really warm inside to know that both Blake and I got to work with you and you’re kinda like our little girl, so I am very proud of you.”

With that, viewers learned that Cali and Max would be leaving the show and Joana earned the Instant Save.

Tune in next week when the Top 11 perform live for “Fan Week.”
