Thomas Rhett and his wife have double the love coming their way!
In an exciting post on Instagram, Rhett and his love, Lauren Akins, announced that they would be expecting as well as making the commitment to adopt a child from Africa. The couple, who have been married for just over four years now, will make the first time parents a mother and father to two lucky kids.
“We are so happy to announce that we are pregnant and we are in the process of adopting a child from Africa! Safe to say life is about to get crazy,” Rhett wrote next to a cute snapshot of him and his wife with golden ‘BABY’ balloons. Even Akins got in on the thrill of it all by cheekily announcing the news on her own Instagram account with another adorable picture of the two.

“OH BABY! actually…BABIES! Our hearts are exploding with happiness for y’all to meet our new baby who we are bringing home from Africa soon who is also going to have a little brother or sister because, SURPRISE! there’s a sweet baby in my belly too #adopting&pregnant #cominginhot2017,” she wrote.
While the pregnancy was unexpected, the couple is beyond grateful for their happy surprise as they’ve been trying for some time to start a family with one another.
“We tried to get pregnant for a little bit before,” said Akins in an interview with People Magazine. “It was a good chunk of time and our family is extremely fertile, so I was expecting it to happen easily. I was like, ‘Maybe this is the Lord’s way of telling me adoption is what he wants me to do.’ And I was okay with that.”
On the other hand, it’s no surprise that the couple planned to adopt a child from Africa after trying for months to bring a baby into this world. Both Akins and Rhett have spent a good amount of time overseas volunteering and dedicating their service to many charities set up throughout the continent. Akins helps out specifically with the 147 Million Orphans organization, donating over $250,000 at one event alone in October of last year.
Looks like Rhett is about to have an even bigger year than expected with not only becoming a father of two, but also heading out on the road for his Home Team Tour this spring with Kelsea Ballerini, Russell Dickerson and Ryan Hurd joining along for the ride.
