Thomas Rhett has a lot of titles on his resume: musician, songwriter, performer, husband, son. But the newest name in his repertoire puts the country singer as a father of two.

After receiving simultaneous good news about expecting a biological child while adopting a baby from Africa, Rhett and his wife, Lauren, could have never imagined received both blessings at the same time. Although Rhett finds himself ready to start a family with his lovely lady, he is taking in all the advice he can from friends and fellow country stars, Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan, to get to hear their side of combining travel with fatherhood.

“I don’t really know what to expect to tell you the truth, but I’ve done all I can to talk to people like Dierks and Luke and all these people that have children and also travel,” said Rhett to Sounds Like Nashville and other media in attendance at his recent No. 1 party. “I think my biggest fear is looking at my daughter and being like, ‘Yeah, I gotta be going on the road for a weekend.’ Dierks always talks about his girls like holding onto his legs and stuff, and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to deal with that. But people do it and it’ll become a new normal, I think is the phrase I’m gonna have to get used to.”

As a musician on the move constantly paraded around by a crazy schedule, Bentley did get down to the truth with Rhett about how parenting differs from person to person, no matter how hard you educated yourself on the life change.

“Dierks said don’t be afraid if you drink four Red Bulls a day and I’ve watched Dierks drink a lot of Red Bulls. They say it just takes a lot of getting used to. When you live this lifestyle—it’s been going on five years now—it’s just been my wife and I and our two dogs, so when you have two more people—humans—that you’re responsible for, they say that your life just changes. Like there’s nothing you can really do to get ready for it. You can read books and you can talk to me as much as you want, but you’re gonna be a different parent than I am just like I’m gonna be a different parent than you are. The best advice is just take it as it comes and just realize you’re gonna be exhausted,” revealed Rhett.

Even more recently, Rhett looked for even more parenting advice from Jason Aldean, who will welcome his third child later this year. After evaluating all of the materialistic success pre-fatherhood, they both agree that what’s most important is the future of any child in their families.

“After you have kids, you still want those things. But at the forefront of your brain is, ‘How can I give my child the best life humanly possible?’ (Aldean) said that’s what helps him get on the bus on the weekends. That’s the best piece of advice I’ve gotten so far,” Rhett said to The Advocate.

Rhett is currently enjoying being a dad to little Willa before his biological daughter is due later this summer.
