It’s a family affair for this year’s CMA Country Christmas special as husband and wife Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins are set to host the holiday experience. The country superstar and New York Times bestselling author will team up to bring the Christmas spirit into homes of country fans nationwide.

Their roles as hosts was announced early Wednesday morning (11/11) on Good Morning America, just hours ahead of the 54th annual CMA Awards.

“We can’t wait for you all to get to watch that and get into the holiday spirit with us,” shared Rhett.

“I feel like this year, everyone’s needed things to celebrate and look forward to and so it was like the second Halloween was over…I started decorating for Christmas,” added Akins.

The special will be directed by Paul Miller and Robert Deaton will serve as writer and executive producer. Performers will be revealed at a later date.

The news of his hosting gig comes early in the day ahead of Rhett’s scheduled performance at the CMA Awards. The singer will take the stage to perform his nominated track “Be A Light” with Reba, Hillary Scott and Chris Tomlin. Akins will also serve as a presenter on the show.
