Thomas Rhett has ambitious plans to release not one, but two albums in 2021, and he’ll get started with Country Again: Side A on April 30.

Announcing the first half of the double album on Friday (March 5), the reigning CMA co-Entertainer of the Year revealed key details about the project. It will mark his fifth studio set overall, and after co-writing every song on the album’s first half, TR tells fans he’s finally making the kind of meaningful music he’s always wanted to.

Country Again: Side A is everything I wanted to say when I was 19 years old, but hadn’t lived enough to know how to say any of those things yet,” he shared. “It’s about the crazy journey that took me out into the world over the last ten years and ultimately brought me back home, more centered and content than ever, with a deep understanding for what’s important in life. I’ve had a blast sharing some of these songs in their acoustic form during quarantine and am blown away by the reaction the fans have already shown.”

Two new tracks were included in the news, and the star went on to describe the album as a return-to-his-roots — tapping back into his early inspirations as an artist. An official press release and even the album’s title itself both hint at a more country-focused sound, which is a distinct change from the energetic rural R&B of the hit maker’s recent work.

“I just feel like for the first time at 30 years old, I’m right where I’m supposed to be,” he said in a short video about the music. “And I’m happy to be there.

Preorders for Country Again: Side A are available now, with the project’s second part expected later in 2021. Much of the work was reportedly informed by the forced slow-down that came as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and two songs preview that theme.

“Want It Again” stands as a thoughtful breakup ballad, holding out hope for a romantic second chance. While the previously shared “Growing Up” arrives as a coming-of-age anthem rooted in grooving gratitude, which TR previewed on social media last spring.

Country Again: Side A is produced by Dann Huff, Jesse Frasure and Matt Dragstrem, and its lead single, “What’s Your Country Song,” is inside country radio’s Top 5.
