Tim McGraw performed his latest single, “I Called Mama,” on CMT Celebrates Our Heroes, a CMT special honoring frontline workers in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. He appeared after a moving story about two healthcare workers whose families were forced to relocate away from them during the pandemic to avoid getting the virus. Seated in front of a fire, McGraw talked about the importance of the people who are helping to keep the country going during this time.

“I want to say thank you to all our frontline workers, all of the public-facing workers who do everything they can to keep this country going, take care of people, [and] who have a heart for service and are resilient and relentless,” said McGraw prior to his performance. “You are the heroes in this country, so thank you so much.”

McGraw continued, saying he wanted to play song about his biggest hero: his mom. The video then segues to a photo of a car at a drive-in theater and McGraw’s face shows up on the movie screen as he starts singing the song. The performance video then alternates between McGraw sitting in his house and his image superimposed over other various scenes. These scenes include a woman holding an iPad, people watching television, a picturesque barn in the mountains, a billboard, and many more. The video then ends with McGraw back in front of the fire.

McGraw is among many performers participating in the CMT special honoring frontline workers. CMT Celebrates Our Heroes is in place of the CMT Artists Of The Year that normally airs this time of year. Find out more about how you can help here.
