Obviously, Tim McGraw is best known as a legit county superstar. He’s got all the accolades and hits to prove it. Plus, there’s that whole movie star thing. Honestly, he would never have to work another day in his life if he didn’t want to. But like so many these days, he also has a side hustle — as the host of his own radio show.

McGraw has recently begun a new show called Beyond the Influence Radio, where he interviews megastars of all stripes — from rock icons Bruce Springsteen and Joe Walsh to Nashville Predators captain Roman Josi. And in a Friday (April 16) appearance on Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country, the living legend admitted that he’s still learning the ropes.

“You know, I’m always nervous about those things,” he said candidly. “I’m always nervous what to ask, especially someone like Springsteen who I’ve known for years and is a friend. You’re scared to ask certain things but you have to talk to them like you don’t know that much about them, because you want to inform the audience.

“But I find it an interesting way to sort of use your talent, and add to your talent,” he went on. “I think any time you do those sorts of things, especially wen you’re nervous and not so sure footed of yourself, trying to learn as you do it — just like acting or anything else, those things enhance what your first art form is, which is music to me.”

Meanwhile, McGraw also talked a length about the Deluxe Edition of his Here On Earth album, which features a few new songs including the politically charged “Undivided” with Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard. McGraw opened up about how he’s stayed at the top of his game over the years, and how he balances the demands of art and commerce.

Tune in to the whole show Friday (April 16) at 7 a.m. CT (or anytime on-demand on Apple Music Country at apple.co/_TodaysCountry) to hear more from Tim McGraw — including the story behind “Undivided,” and performing at President Joe Biden’s Inauguration Concert.
