For his latest release, Justin Timberlake worked with Chris Stapleton, Alicia Keys and many more prominent music industry folks. But little did fans suspect that country singer Toby Keith would make an appearance on the songwriting credits as well.

Lo and behold, a representative for Keith confirmed to Pitchfork that the singer brought his own flavor to Timberlake’s mix on a song called “Sauce.” Receiving the ASCAP credit as a part of his royalties check from the collaboration, Keith gave some part to the song despite not revealing much about the partnership with the pop star.

It seems as though Timberlake sought out a more country-rooted sound in his latest release due to his whole Man of the Woods theme. As a Tennessee man himself, the pop artist experimented with his well-known soulful sound alongside the folksy hints here and there.

Most notably on the record where fans of Timberlake can hear his Southern upbringing is his collaboration with Stapleton called “Say Something.” The two, who bonded over a special CMA performance just a couple years back, worked together on a harmonious duet that led to a breathtaking one-take video complete with choir and immaculate vocals.

Flirting the line of country music even more, Timberlake continuously supports the genre and its ties by producing and performing at the annual Pilgrimage Festival held in Franklin, Tennessee. Giving back to the small-town community through his love of music, Timberlake generously dedicates himself to his influence in country music despite his pop-heavy career.

Timberlake’s album, Man of the Woods, is out everywhere now.
