Uncle Kracker Heading Back To The Studio Before Kenny Chesney Tour

Before Uncle Kracker embarks on Kenny Chesney’s 2011 Goin’ Coastal Tour next month, he plans to head back into the studio to record a follow up to his 2009 release Happy Hour.

Billboard.com recently caught up with the “Smile” singer to chat about the new project.

“I’m kind of excited — actually, the most excited I’ve been in a long time,” Kracker tells Billboard.com. He says he’s written “about 20″ songs and describes them as “a little more Americana. I don’t want to say rootsy, but I think it’s more ‘me’ than the last record was. The overall goal this time was to go in and have fun.”

As for the recording process Uncle Kracker says this time around things are a bit different for him.

“I’ve never really been in the process where I had a second single still at radio and I started writing to record [another album],” he says. “It’s pretty calculated, I guess, probably the most organized I’ve ever been. Me and organized in the same sentence — that’s weird.”

He revealed that he’s been colaborating with J.T. Harding and Shane McAnally, who wrote Chesney’s most recent No.1 “Somewhere With You,” on the new album.

As for touring with the “King of Summer,” Kracker says he’s looking forward to it.

“We’re both pretty laid-back cats, and he’s just such a great dude, so we do well together,” says Kracker. “He’s just a great guy and a lot of fun to be around, and I’m a pretty fun person. The last thing you want is to be out on the road with some miserable group, just putzing around. I’ve been on plenty of tours where there’s no interaction between bands at all. But when you’re out with Chesney, all day every day, there’s something fun happening.”
