Trisha Yearwood to Star in FOX’s Live Musical, ‘The Passion’
In an announcement at the Television Critics Association's press tour, FOX revealed the cast will include Trisha Yearwood as Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Live musical events are becoming more and more popular on network television. Following the success of NBC’s The Sound of Music Live! and The Wiz Live!, Fox is now working to put on a two-hour special called The Passion.
Set in modern-day, The Passion tells the story of Jesus Christ’s last hours of life as he presides over the Last Supper.
In an announcement at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, Entertainment Weekly reports that FOX revealed the cast will include Trisha Yearwood as Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Singer Prince Royce will play the disciple Peter while Tyler Perry narrates the story.
The Passion was written by High School Musical’s Peter Barsocchini and will air live at iconic locations in New Orleans. The two-hour special airs on FOX Sunday, March 20 at 8 p.m. ET.
