With just one more week left in season 18 of NBC’s The Voice cuts are getting deeper for coaches Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton, and even host Carson Daly who announced that voting for the finale opened at the top of the show.

Due to concerns of the coronavirus, the live show is being held through Microsoft Teams. Fortunately, that also makes for some epic moments. The coaches, along with the remaining contestants, all coming from their respective homes, collaborated on a fun cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Every Day People.” In addition, Kane Brown popped on to perform his new song, “Cool Again,” Doja Cat sang “Say So,” and James Taylor and his son delivered a tender rendition of the classic, “Moon River.”

In a season full of twists and turns, the finale is no different. While the Top voter from each team automatically advances to the final round, then the remaining contestants will compete for an instant save spot making this the first time there will be a Top 5 in The Voice finale.

The Top 9 performances were as follows:

Team Blake

JOANNA SERENKO (18) – St. Louis, Missouri

  • Performed “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers

Introduced by her half-sister, niece and nephew

  • Blake: “There’s a reason America saved you last week. Your voice, it literally floats like a butterfly. You’re so powerful. I love your artistry. Congratulations again. Great performance.”

Team Kelly

MICAH IVERSON (25) – Tokyo, Japan

  • Performed “I Will Follow You into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie

Dedicated his performance to Kelly

  • Kelly: “I’m so excited. It already sounded beautiful when you came into rehearsal, but like I said in rehearsal, you’re such a good student. You’re always learning, we’re all always learning. I’m 38-years-old, I’ve been here for a minute, I’m still learning. I think you stop progressing as an artist and you stop that beautiful growth that you can learn from other artists and other people and you are so good at it. And you execute it. You hear it in your head and you execute exactly what you’re asked of. It is insane. You are not just a great vocalist, you are an enormously great artist.”

Team Blake

TODD TILGHMAN (41) – Meridian, Mississippi

  • Performed “Love Me” by Collin Raye

Had a live audience of his 8 children

  • Blake: “It’s crazy to see this side of you right now. Clearly, it got to you a little bit seeing that back. That was amazing to see all the kids around you. My favorite shot of that performance has to be which one of your little girl completely passed out, sucking her thumb while you were performing. That’s one of the greatest things I’ve seen on this show. I’m so glad to see this side of your personality. I didn’t think I would ever see you cry.”

Team Legend

ZAN FISKUM (22) – Seattle, Washington

  • Performed “Never Be the Same” by Camila Cabello

Dedicated her performance to her little brother

  • John: “I gotta tell America that Zan is so involved in how these songs are arranged. She’s at home coming up with her own arrangements and really crafting it to make it her own. And then, when she sings, she’s giving you a master class in how to jump between your head voice, your chest voice, all these incredibly high notes, all these jumps and dances around the notes. It’s just incredible and very few singers can accomplish what she’s doing. Zan, that was incredible.”

Team Nick

THUNDERSTORM ARTIS (23) – Haleiwa, Hawaii

  • Performed “Home” by Michael Bublé

Dedicated performance to his wife, Faith

  • Nick: “From day one in this competition, you have done exactly what Blake said, shown up and made everything your own. You’ve cleared a path for yourself that I think is a clear shot to the finale and I hope America gets behind you as well.”

Team Kelly

MEGAN DANIELLE (17) – Douglasville, Georgia

Dedicated her performance to her siblings

  • Kelly: “I think that you are so magical. I think your tone is so distinct. There’s not many people on this planet when they open their mouth no one on the planet sounds like you. And every time you sing, it’s like you hear what a broken heart trying to fly sounds like. Like, it sounds so beautiful broken and I just thank you. Whatever happens in this competition, I just thank you for just being in my presence and just singing and reminding me of why I love to sing. And that’s a very powerful gift you’ve got, girl.”

Team Nick

ALLEGRA MILES (16) – St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

  • Performed “Overjoyed” by Stevie Wonder

Dedicated her performance to her grandma who is 92 and has dementia, but remembers all of the music

  • Nick: “I love that you just came out swinging during this performance. We’re getting to that point in the competition now where we’re nearing the finish and every performance has been incredible. And you just came out and gave, I think, one of your best performances yet on the show and showed the world who you are and what you can do.”

Team Blake

TONEISHA HARRIS (44) – Roswell, Georgia

  • Performed “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion

Dedicated her performance to her husband

  • Blake: “I gotta tell you, you are literally so special. You’re so special to me, you’re so special to everybody who watches this show and everybody who works on this show. You bring us so much joy and so much credibility with your talent. Thank you so much. My God, you deserve to be in the finale.”

Team Legend

CAMMWESS (21) – Blythewood, South Carolina

Dedicated his performance to his young cousin, Ariana, who has short gut syndrome.

John: “It was stunning, it was emotional, you took us on a journey, your voice is just honey butter, I keep saying it. It just flows between your falsetto, everything you’re doing, powerful, emotional, beautiful. America, you know what to do. Vote for this man.”

The last instant save of the season will be used during the May 12 results show.
