Keith Urban kicked off ACM Presents: Our Country with a blast of bittersweet fun on Sunday night (April 5), delivering a playful, one-on-one performance of his 2016 hit, “Wasted Time.”
The superstar was supposed to be hosting the 55th ACM Awards at that very moment, but with the yearly blowout postponed until September due to the coronavirus outbreak, leading off the night’s performance-heavy replacement seemed the next best thing. Seated in front of a control board in his home studio, the hit maker first thanked first responders battling the virus and then waxed poetic on the power of music, noting that he was especially missing the connection it provided between him and fans during live shows.
With that in mind, Urban chose to “Wasted Time” for its underlying theme — all about the small moments which add up to a life well lived. With his lively vocal jumping and skipping across the anthem’s upbeat lyrics, his intimate performance made up for its lack of theatrics with genuine heart — reminding viewers that even if they feel like life is passing them by at the moment, time spent together is a true gift.
