William Michael Morgan Dreams Of Being ‘Home At Christmas’

William Michael Morgan reminisces on Christmases spent with his family in Mississippi throughout the nostalgic holiday ballad, “Home At Christmas,” which Sounds Like Nashville premieres today. The song is featured on the five-track Honky Tonk Christmas EP which will be released Friday, Oct. 29.

Morgan wrote the song with Curtis Grimes and David Adam Byrnes specifically for their upcoming A Honky Tonk Christmas Tour, which launches Nov. 18 in Little Rock, AR, and runs through Dec. 19 in Lindale, TX. The 19-city trek includes performances by Morgan, Grimes, Byrnes, Brian Callihan and Holly Tucker on select Texas dates. The two-hour concert is an in-the-round setting where the artists will each play the holiday tunes featured on the Honky Tonk Christmas project, including “Home At Christmas.”

“I really enjoyed writing this song with Curtis and David,” Morgan tells Sounds Like Nashville of the tune. “We went into the session wanting to write a song for the Christmas tour and we were all on the same page almost immediately.”

Morgan’s traditional country style is at the forefront of the holiday ballad alongside sweeping pedal steel, a driving beat and delicate strums of an acoustic guitar. Reminiscent to Randy Travis’ effortless singing style, Morgan’s vocals exude emotion as he sings of missing all his favorite family holiday traditions while out on the road.

“We talked about different traditions each of our families have during the holidays and what things we enjoyed the most,” Morgan adds. “Turns out we all wished we could spend more time home at Christmas, and that’s where the song came from.”
