The X Factor Recap: And Then There Were Ten

X Factor Top 13 - CountryMusicIsLove

With a triple elimination looming, The X Factor contestants, judges and fans were equally on edge. The show kicked off with the surprising elimination of Carlos Geuvara. After the elimination, the remaining 12 acts were set to take the stage.

’80s music was the theme of the week and singing a song more than twice her age was Florida native, Rion Paige. The fan favorite took on Pat Benatar’s “We Belong.”

Judge Kelly Rowland kicked off the comments by saying, “You know, I just love the way you sang ‘we belong together’ like you were from the 80s.” Paulina Rubio agreed, adding that Paige was a firecracker. Simon Cowell added to the comments by saying, “What I really like about you is that you give it 110%. I don’t think Demi has given you the right song yet.” Paige’s mentor, Demi Lovato, quickly refuted Cowell’s claim, saying that she has a lot of input in her song choice and that she was proud of her contestant.

Restless Road later took on Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose” (also remade by Blake Shelton).

Following their high energy performance, Rowland reiterated what she had previously said, “Like I’ve said before, I’ll be there front row at the concerts.” “I love the concept. I love the song. I love it,” Rubio added. Lovato, who was equally as excited about the performance said the song could’ve been their own song. “You keep growing every single week,” she said. “You guys have it.” Their mentor Cowell was proud of his group and said “I love that you love being here. You’re working harder than eveybody else. I have a good feeling about you guys.”

The last country act of the competition was Rachel Potter.

Singing Heart’s “Alone,” judges praised Potter’s performance. Rubio told Potter that she was amazing and that she loved it. Lovato said “Rachel, oh my God. You make me proud every single week and you’re not even in my category. Everything was phenomenal. You remind me of a mix of Shania Twain and Martina McBride.” Cowell was not as excited and said she sounded like she was screaming the big notes. Rowland told Potter that there’s nothing wrong with having “edge.”

The X Factor picks up again tonight with the elimination of two more contestants. Tune in to FOX at 8 p.m. EST.

SPOILER ALERT: Results revealed below…

Tonight’s results show proved to be a nail biter. Host Mario Lopez took fans, judges and contestants alike on an up and down roller coaster of emotions. He announced nine of the acts in the top 10, including Rion Paige and Restless Road.

In a shocking reveal, bottom two were Rachel Potter and Khaya Cohen. Two of the top contenders last night, everyone was in shock. The two sang for their lives and ultimately, one was sent home.

Following their performances, the decision was left up to the judges. Potter’s mentor, Kelly Rowland, voted to save the Nashville bartender. Judges Paulina Rubio, Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell decided to keep Khaya in the competition.

We wish Rachel luck and hope to see her in the country music community.

Tune in next Wednesday to see the top 10 compete again.
