Album Review: Todd Chrisley’s ‘A Chrisley Christmas’

Todd Chrisley and his family are here to bring joy to the holidays with the release of A Chrisley Christmas. The project includes a mix of classic holiday covers as well as originals that parody the holiday, in a good way.

The light-hearted tracks make you crack a smile, such as “Under the Mistletoe” and “Go Scrooge Yourself,” and the classics, featuring artists RaeLynn, Jana Kramer and Emily West, hold an air of sentiment that represent the holiday season at its best.

The two opening credits, “What I want for Christmas” and “Under the Mistletoe,” give in to fun holiday traditions while making a joke. The whole family plays a part in these tunes that describe a father’s dream holiday wish list, a day of silence and some Christmas love from his lady.

Through out the album, interludes appear with funny commentary featuring Chrisley and the featured country stars. They don’t add any musical value, but provide a solid laugh and insight to the Chrisley family and their traditions.

“The First Noel,” featuring West, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” featuring Kramer, and “O Holy Night,” featuring RaeLynn are the true gems of the record. The female voices endear listeners while singing sentimental Christmas classics that will go straight to any fan’s heart.

Songs such as “Go Scrooge Yourself,” which features Michael Ray, and “’Twas the Night Before the Casino” are two laugh-out-loud tracks on the record. There is no hidden deep meaning in the lyrics, but very what-you-see-is-what-you-get hilarious.

A Chrisley Christmas isn’t likely to go on to win any awards or be revered as a holiday classic that stands true for generations to come. But, the Chrisley’s put a fun spin on the best time of the year while weaving in heartwarming covers and reminding us all of the most important part of Christmas: family.
