Following a very successful 2018, renowned country pop songstress Lucie Silvas kicked off her new year by releasing “Black Jeans” as the latest single off her critically acclaimed album E.G.O. on Monday.

“When I’m wearing my black jeans, maybe you won’t even recognize me, and you know I won’t just take a backseat,” Silvas sings, combining elements of Americana twang and psychedelic soft rock. Her husky vocals add just the right amount of soul to the song, creating a retro pop sound straight out of the ‘60s or ‘70s.

Co-written by Silvas, JD McPherson and Trent Dabbs, the track details the many pressures women face when trying to live up to unrealistic standards and expectations.

“’Black Jeans’ is somewhat of a centerpiece for this new record, being able to lay back a bit and find perspective on everything around me and my place in it,” the U.K. chanteuse said in a news release. “It sounds like I’ve always felt when I sing, but until now, I didn’t know how to put it into a song.”

Silvas does not plan on slowing down in 2019, as she is set to join Anderson East on his Encore World Tour in February. She will also hit the road with Tom Odell on another tour.
