Officiant Carson Daly Shares Details From Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s Wedding Day
This wedding was "perfectly them."
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani officially tied the knot at their Oklahoma estate on Saturday, July 3rd, and the couple invited The Voice family member Carson Daly to officiate the wedding. Daly appeared on NBC’s Today on Tuesday, July 6, to share details from the wedding.
“The wedding was, the best way to describe it is it was perfectly them, the whole weekend and the marriage itself,” said The Voice host. “It was as elegant and refined and cool as Gwen is and it was as country and down home and fun as Blake is. They just work. They’re an unlikely pair. They’re like if you paired delicious fried chicken with a glass of champagne.”
The Today segment revealed that the couple were married in a chapel on Shelton’s property that the singer built specifically for their special day. The wedding was also a small one, with Shelton and Stefani surrounded just by their closest family and friends. Daly also revealed that, while working on his preparation for the wedding, he suggested they write their own vows to one another. Stefani recited her own emotional and personal vows to Shelton, and Shelton offered his fiancée a song.
“He sings her a song while he’s crying that he wrote specifically for her,” said Daly. “‘Reach The Star,’ I think it was called, and not a dry eye in the house.”
Daly has known both Shelton and Stefani for years and says he has formed an especially close friendship with Shelton during their time on the singing competition show.
“He’s become one of the closest people in my life, to be honest with you,” Daly told Today in February. “We’re very close, which is ironic because I — obviously, you know, I’m a producer on the show, I’m involved in recruiting coaches. I’ve talked some people into doing the show. And he was the person I knew the least. And so it’s just ironic that 10 years later, he’s the one that I’m definitely closest with. Our families vacation together at this point, and so I’m very grateful.”
News of the celebrity couple’s nuptials broke on Sunday evening, July 4th, and on Monday, Stefani posted photos from the special day. The snaps show her and Shelton posing on a beautiful overlook next to the chapel, riding in a golf cart, and kissing next to their intricate wedding cake. Stefani stunned in a Vera Wang wedding gown and Shelton looked classy in a suit jacket, vest, and jeans. Daly also took to social media to post photos from the special day and to offer his congrats to the couple.
“Here comes the bride…so honored to get to marry two of my favorite people on earth,” he wrote. “May God bless you guys in this new chapter of your lives. We love you!”
