Chris Young Tries Not To ‘Jinx’ ACM Nominations

Like most of Nashville, Chris Young is packing his bags and heading to Las Vegas this weekend for ‘Country Music’s Party of the Year,’ the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Young is playing double-duty at this year’s ACMs. In addition to performing on the telecast, he’s also nominated for two awards- Single Record of the Year for his No.1 smash, “Tomorrow,” and Male Vocalist of the Year.

Young, who now has five consecutive No.1 singles under his belt, says he’s trying not to get himself too hyped up over the thought of winning.

“If my name got called for either one of those, one: I have no idea what I’m gonna say, ’cause I refuse to…I think that’s almost like jinxin’ it, just like if you make up a speech, so I’ll probably look like a complete idiot if they do, ’cause I’ll have no idea what to say. And then, two: my flight for the next day will definitely change. We’re not flyin’ out of Vegas at six in the mornin’,” he says with a laugh.

The “Neon” singer admits he would be trilled to take home a win in either category though.

“Those are huge categories to be nominated in, so, literally, this is one of those times I have no doubt that just being nominated in those categories is so huge, and I’m so excited about it.”

Young is going to be pretty busy in while visiting ‘Sin City,’ but he’s looking forward to it.

“We pretty much work every day,” he explains. “We’ve got a couple private shows. We’re openin’ a show for Blake Shelton when we’re down there, and then, you know, obviously, the ACMs, so we’ve got all the stuff that goes along with that — gettin’ to perform on the show and then havin’ two big nominations, so it’s gonna be a full weekend for us out there in Vegas.”

Will Chris Young take home a win on Sunday? Be sure to tune in to the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, April 1st at 8pm ET on CBS to find out!
