David Nail is a really good sport.

Even though he tore a tenon in his hand in his hand at the City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge during CMA Fest last month, the Grammy-nominated vocalist is stepping up to the plate again for the Taco Bell All Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game on Sunday, July 8 in Kansas City. Nail will be joined by Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Ozzie Smith and Mike Piazza as well Emmy-winning “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet, “Golden Globe” winner Jon Hamm of “Mad Men,” Chord Overstreet from “Glee” and Kansas City Royals favorites George Brett, Bo Jackson and Mike Sweeney. US National Soccer Team captain Carlos Bocanegra, US Softball Gold Medalist Jennie Finch and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel will also take part in the Legends/Celebrities game.

“Those guys don’t mess around,” Nail says of his fellow players. “They get on the field to play hard – and they do. I know I’m honored to get out there with those folks and play softball… because they’re not joking around, and that’s the best kind of game.”

For fans who can’t watch the game live in Kansas City, ESPN will broadcast the Legends/Celeb Softball Game immediately after the Home Run Derby Monday, July 9. In a special double header, the Derby starts at 8 pm Eastern; the Softball Game is slated for approximately 10:30. It’s also available through ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile and the Watch ESPN app.

“What makes this even better for me,” says the man who played in this game two years ago in Anaheim, “is it’s being played in my home state of Missouri. It’s like coming home, playing major league ball – which was a dream of mine – and still getting to make my music. It’s everything I love about who I am and where I’m from.”

Nail isn’t the only country star taking part in MLB’s All-Star Game festivities in Kansas City. The Zac Brown Band is slated to perform at the Home Run Derby on Monday, while Luke Bryan and Kellie Pickler will sing at the All-Star game on Tuesday.
