Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘Country Strong’ Character Inspired By Britney Spears
Gwyneth Paltrow plays Kelly Canter, a country singer trying to resurrect her fallen career, in the upcoming film Country Strong. While Gwyneth may have been studying the lives and careers of Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn to get into character, Country Strong writer/director Shana Feste says Gwyneth’s character was inspired by pop icon Britney Spears.
“That’s where this movie came from. I mean, I was seeing what was happening in the media to Britney Spears,” Feste tells the Los Angeles Times.
“I finished the script when Michael Jackson passed away,” Feste adds. “I think it’s tragic how we treat people who give us so much, and we love to see them knocked down to build them back up again, to knock them down again. It’s a weird fascination.”
