Jake Owen celebrated the success of his third consecutive chart-topping single, “The One That Got Away,” last week with a party hosted at the BMI Building on Music Row. Owen and co-writers Dallas Davidson and Jimmy Ritchey toasted the No.1 song along with friends, family and members of the music industry.
The song is Owen’s first No.1 as a songwriter, which makes the success a little sweeter.
“It definitely has a different feeling,”Owen told CountryMusicIsLove and other reporters prior to the No.1 party. “I was actually thinking about this on the way down here. I’ve had a couple opportunities to stand in front of a bunch of people in Nashville, my peers, business partners, and songwriters and I always felt like I walked away from some of these parties, the first two at least, feeling like I left something out. Like I didn’t include everyone. This time is a bit different because it’s a kind of really sweet feeling. This has come full circle.”
Jake says he’s also thankful to share this moment with his co-writer and former producer Jimmy Ritchey (this marks Ritchey’s first No.1 as a songwriter as well).
“Not only is it my first number one as a writer, but I wrote it with Jimmie Ritchey who really is responsible for helping me. He produced my first two albums, he helped me get a record deal, he brought me to BMI,” Jake explained.
“It’s just really special for me because I’ve always been so appreciative of what Jimmy has helped me accomplish,” he continued. “To do this with him it means a lot to both of us ‘cause it’s our first time to be writers of a number one song on country radio.”
During the presentation, Owen thanked his family, including his wife and three-month-old daughter, Pearl. He also asked everyone to “say a prayer” for his father Steve, who is undergoing cancer treatment at the Mayo Clinic.
Davidson, who now has 14 No.1 singles under his belt, took time to thank his wife, Sarah, “the one that didn’t get away.”
Jake’s current single, “Anywhere With You,” is racing up the charts at Country radio. Fans can catch up on the “Night Train” Tour with Jason Aldean throughout the summer.
