Review: Blake Shelton & Jerrod Niemann- Daytona Beach, FL

Blake Shelton and special guest Jerrod Niemann kicked off the American Music Festival in Daytona Beach, FL on Thursday. It was the perfect way to begin Labor Day weekend- a great concert on the beach!

Niemann opened the show with about an hour long set that included songs from his #1 debut album including “The Buckin’ Song,” “One More Drinkin’ Song,” “For Everclear,” and a killer cover of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia.” If you’ve listened to his album, Judge Jerrod And The Hung Jury, you know it’s obvious that he has a great sense of humor and that really shows on stage as well. The crowd was loving his jokes and short stories he told between songs.

Niemann also sang his debut hit, “Lover, Lover” and his new single “What Do You Want.” The crowd went crazy over “Lover, Lover” and I definitely think he has another huge hit on his hands with “What Do You Want.” It’s such a good song!

Blake Shelton hit the stage singing his multi-week #1 “All About Tonight” and went on to sing hit after hit including, “Goodbye Time,” “I’ll Just Hold On,” “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” and “Some Beach.” I have to admit, at first I was surprised to hear that he is releasing a greatest hits album later this year, but after seeing him live and re-living all of his hits over the years, I know that it’s definitely time for a hits album.

Shelton threw in a few fun covers including “All My Exes Live In Texas” and “Redneck Girl.” He also threw in a “pop” song, Rupert Holmes’ “Escape,” and joked that he couldn’t believe the crowd “let” him sing it.

The crowd went absolutely crazy for Shelton’s “Ol’ Red” and “Hillbilly Bone” and sang every single word to “Austin.” He joked that he had recently heard “Austin” on an oldies country station and couldn’t believe that HE was on an oldies station.

Blake was obviously still beaming from last week’s CMA nomination news. He thanked fans for their support multiple times throughout the show and the recognition is well deserved. He also talked about his engagement to Miranda Lambert, which he seems to be totally smitten about. After joking that he’s “RICH” now that he’s marrying Lambert, Shelton went on to play “Nobody But Me” and told the crowd that when we sings it, he actually means it now and said that up until now it’s just been bullsh**. (How cute!!)

This was my first time seeing a full show of Blake’s and it definitely won’t be my last. His live shows are so much fun because you get the best of Blake, his humor and his music. If you haven’t seen him live yet, make it a point to see him. He’s so much fun!

If you’d like to get a taste of his live show, be sure to tune in to GAC at 9 p.m. ET on September 8 for the premiere of Shelton’s first live concert special, Blake Shelton Live: It's All About Tonight.
