Brothers Osborne looked to find inspiration in an alternative fashion for their sophomore effort, but didn’t want to feel the restriction of the Music Row bubble. Instead, they ventured to the sandy beaches of Florida to record their upcoming project.

Staying in Port Saint Joe on the Gulf Coast of Florida, the ACM and CMA award-winning duo packed up all their music materials in hopes of creating their second album in just a couple weeks’ time. Thankfully, the relaxing sounds of the ocean and the laidback mentality of the creative process led them to a 10-track record that they personally identified with on an emotional level.

“On this record, I guess the fact that we were at the beach, no one was over-analyzing anything, over-syncing it. We were all just relaxed,” John Osborne said to Sounds Like Nashville recently. “I think that’s when some of the best art is made, when you’re just being yourself and not over-analyzing it. We were having fun, we were enjoying ourselves. We were being creative and we weren’t worried about anything other than making music that we’re proud of.”

After completing the album, Brothers Osborne decided to pay tribute to the tiny beach town they resided in during the recordings and named the collection Port Saint Joe. Without Florida, the two could have headed in a whole different direction and they find themselves grateful of seeking out such a calming space to make their way toward the next step in their career.
