Brett Eldredge celebrated his No. 1 single “Wanna Be That Song” with his go-to cocktail (whiskey on the rocks) as well as co-writers, friends, and members of the Country music community on Wednesday (April 5).

After his dynamic performance at the ACM Awards and anticipating the excitement of opening up for Luke Bryan once again on the upcoming Huntin’, Fishin’, and Lovin’ Every Day Tour, the country star was in high spirits while honoring the success of his third single off of his sophomore effort, Illinois. Although this isn’t Eldredge’s first time at the top of the charts, the single marked a personal accomplishment within the message behind the song.

“This one’s extra special because it is about being a part in a soundtrack of somebody’s life,” explained Eldredge to Sounds Like Nashville and other media outlets in attendance. “It’s about all the songs that led to this one. It’s about kinda what the story we wrote of this is what I want to try to do in my songwriting and my music is I want to be a part of someone’s story. I want to be a part of a moment in their lives that they look back and it rewinds the years. It takes them back to that special place. There’s a bit of magic in music, or there’s a whole lot of magic in music, and I felt like when we all wrote this song, we just kinda captured the actual essence of what a song can do for your life and talk about that with this song. It was a special thing that connected.”

Written by Eldredge, Ross Copperman and Scooter Carusoe, “Wanna Be That Song” marks the sixth consecutive No. 1 hit for Eldredge. It also brings forth feelings of pride over creating such an establishing career song by rejuvenating the memories one may have through a special lyric that the three men put their souls into.

“I think the way people connected with this just for the fact that everybody just has one thing in common is the love for music. I feel like there’s no one that doesn’t like music. I think that there’s no one that can’t say they remember a certain song that shaped who they are. I’m not saying this is that song, but this talks about those songs. Then also, the next thing you know, it becomes one of those songs for someone and you start seeing people with a tattoo of ‘I wanna be that song,’ or ‘That melody that rewinds years.’ It’s so crazy to connect with people on that level. It was one of those lyrics that’s just nostalgic. We all love nostalgia because that makes us who we are and this song definitely made me who I am as an artist for sure,” said Eldredge.

Eldredge’s latest single, “Something I’m Good At,” is playing on country radio now.
