Cole Swindell Appreciates Support Of ‘You Should Be Here’

Cole Swindell released one of the most poignant songs of the year when he sent “You Should Be Here” to country radio. The song quickly went to the top of the charts and helped heal a lot of broken hearts.

“I’m open and just kind of wear my heart on my sleeve. Songs like this are kind of why I fell in love with country music anyways, so the opportunity to put something out that was hopefully going to be around in years,” the Georgia native tells Sounds Like Nashville.

“… I learned how very personal it was to a lot of people and I think that’s what’s helped me through the whole thing is just knowing that I’m not alone in feeling like that and just how big the country music community, the fans, everybody in the industry… it just feels like a big family and nothing means more than people supporting a song like that, that is so close to me.”

The song was co-written by Swindell and Ashley Gorley, after Gorley had a conversation with his daughter while he was out on the road. The acclaimed songwriter took the title to Swindell, who immediately clicked with the notion. “I said ‘Please let me write that with you’ and he said ‘Well that’s why I said it,’” he explained.
