Brandon Lay Gets Played for a Fool in ‘For My Money’ Video

Soulful newcomer Brandon Lay gets a taste of his own medicine in the new video for “For My Money,” getting played for a fool by an unassuming valet.

Co-written with Andrew DeRoberts, Lay calls the slinky new blues-stomper “deception and flirtation at its best,” all about a guy who’s willing to let his gold-digging girlfriend believe he’s got cash to spare — when really he’s flat broke. But that careless attitude comes back to haunt him in the track’s vintage-themed video.

Directed by Tim Nackashi and featuring one dazzling, uncut sweep of the camera in pure-Goodfellas style, it finds Lay descending into the gritty underside of the Hollywood’s paper-mache glitz. He arrives at a house party gig and promptly scoffs at the self-important setup, only to lose his girl (and his car) while performing beside a quintessential Californian pool … all while the seedy single plays on behind him. Check it out in the video above.
