Nashville-based triple threat artist Maggie Rose has released a stirring new song, “What Are We Fighting For.”

The soulful, soft-rock-leaning tune finds Rose ruminating on the times when disagreements and heat-of-the-moment feelings drive a wedge between two parties. The song could be solely construed as a romantic offering, but given the circumstance the world has been in the past year, it could narrate the ongoing division amongst people, neighbors, friends and loved ones. So often, it is easier to disengage entirely from someone we don’t see eye to eye with, but Rose chooses to compromise and extend compassion through this song.

The singer starts off with questions in the tender opening: “What are we fighting for / Don’t even know anymore / Baby, aren’t you worried / We’re caught in the fury / What are we fighting for?”

She continues, “I know I don’t know everything / But you’ll never know what I can bring / To the table, if you don’t have a seat with me,” admitting in the invitational chorus. The track was penned by the 32-year-old, alongside Alex Haddad and Larry Florman (of Them Vibes).

In a statement on social media, Rose shares that she is fighting for “compassion, empathy, and even excellence within me, my music, and the people and the world around me.” “But don’t get me wrong,” she adds, “My zeal is not always consistent, and the question itself poses varying challenges from one day to the next.”

“Some days I struggle to simply feel worthy and everything feels heavy and dark. Other days I’m totally fired up and I demand that my worthiness be recognized. Some days I have no will to fight, other days I’m frustrated at the lack of fight I observe around me,” the Potomac, Maryland native reflects further.

“However, just asking the question of ourselves everyday is a fight in itself, and the question is one only we alone can ask and answer.”

“What Are We Fighting For” is the second release off Rose’s forthcoming album, Have A Seat, due out August 20. It is preceded by the funky soul-pop anthem and lead single, “Do It.” A self-proclaimed “Americana Rock N Soul” artist, Rose recorded all 11 tracks at the historic Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
