Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani Find Love in a Super Bowl Commercial

It was love at first buffalo wing for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani during Super Bowl LV, when a hilarious commercial explained their romantic origins.

For years now fans have wondered how the opposites-attract couple got together — one a dressed-down country singer and the other a fashion-forward pop superstar. And now we may have some answers. According to an ad filmed for T-Mobile by Shelton, Stefani and fellow The Voice alum Adam Levine, it was fried food and Stefani’s hunger for a change of pace.

The clip begins with Stefani telling Levine that she’s ready to start dating again, explaining that she’s looking for something different than the men in Los Angeles. Someone with culture and maybe from another country. But with Levine’s spotty wireless network, what he hears is completely different. As in, someone “country” and “uncultured.” And that’s when Shelton walks by, singing the praises of “WINGGGGZZZ and NACHOOOOS.”

Fast forward to their blind date, and Shelton shows up in cowboy boots and spurs — obviously. But his good-natured personality seems to win Stefani over, and soon their odd-couple love story begins.

The cute commercial was one of the night’s advertising bright spots, along with a danceable spot that found Dolly Parton remaking her hit “9 to 5″ for a new generation of dream hustlers. Check that one out here. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani announced their engagement in October of 2020, making their connection official after a few years of dating and their actual meet-up story, which took place on the set of The Voice. The NBC singing competition will return for season 20 on March 1, with Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Nick Jonas as coaches.
