Less than a year after saying “I do,” Carly Pearce and Michael Ray have decided to end their marriage. The news that Pearce filed for divorce was confirmed to PEOPLE by both of their representatives.

“This was a hard decision. It wasn’t something she wanted to have to do,” a source close to Pearce tells the publication. “This hasn’t been a quarantine realization — it was a last resort.”

The news comes after several months of speculation surrounding the couple. The two are often active on social media, commenting back to one another and posting photos together, but have remained largely quiet for some time. They also spent most of their quarantine separate, with Pearce staying with her mom and Ray spending time with family in his home state of Florida.

The country couple exchanged vows on October 6, 2019 in Nashville, TN. The ceremony, held at Drakewood Farm, hosted a small party of just 100 guests.

“Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that I didn’t settle for something less than truly the person that I think was made for me is something that I am thankful for,” Pearce shared at the time.

“No matter what, I have her in my corner,” Ray added. “No matter what, she has me in her corner. I tell her, you’re never going to face anything alone. Never will there be anything in life that you don’t look over and I’m standing beside you.”

The two spend their honeymoon in Jamaica in December, a trip reminiscent of their engagement, which happened shortly before Christmas 2018 in Tulum, Mexico.
