It’s only about a month before country power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill co-star in the new Western series, 1883, and over the weekend fans got their first look at the show.

Sharing a preview clip on Sunday night (November 7), McGraw and Hill reveal their leading roles as tough-as-nails members of the Dutton family, cattle ranchers making their way from Texas to Montana who’s story is the preamble to the hit show, Yellowstone.

With Hill’s character Margaret narrating the clip, the family is tossed into a hardscrabble land full of danger, drama — and stunning natural beauty. Explaining that their journey is one of dreams coming true, but also implying those dreams come with a steep, violent price, Hill is joined by her husband James (McGraw) and their daughter (Isabel May), plus Pinkerton agent Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott) and more.

The gritty clip is full of gunfighting, emotional scenes with Hill and McGraw delivering impactful performances and the grand landscape of America’s untouched mountain West, which the family will turn into the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. That ranch is the setting for Yellowstone, which stars Kevin Costner as the family’s modern leader, and the grandson of James and Margaret.

“We are in the land of no mercy now,” says Margaret in the trailer, just as the action reaches a peak.

1883 is set to premiere on December 19 on Paramount+ with a 10-episode first season, written by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan. Season 4 of Yellowstone premiered Sunday night (November 7), and was said to also feature McGraw in a detailed flashback scene.

Tim Mcgraw recently shared a Halloween photo from 1883’s production in Montana, showing off the thick black beard worn by his character, and he also released a new version of his Christmas song, “Christmas All Over the World.”
