Darius Rucker Brings ‘Beers And Sunshine’ To 2020 CMA Awards

Darius Rucker brought some summer fun to the CMA Awards stage on Wednesday, November 11th with his latest single, “Beers And Sunshine.” Rucker sang the lighthearted tune while walking the stage as his band played behind him. The screen behind the singer showcased the vibe of the song, as it showed a graphic of the sun setting over the ocean.

“‘Cause everybody’s down in a world gone crazy / Don’t know how to fix it but I think maybe / Turn on the good times, turn off the TV / Yeah, the only BS I need is beers and sunshine,” he sang in the uplifting chorus.

Rucker released the song as a way to lift spirits during what’s been an unreasonably tough year for many due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s certainly been a hard year so far with a lot of heaviness around us constantly,” Rucker explained previously. “Like it says in the song, I don’t know how we fix any of these big, real issues that we’re facing, but while we work through this time I think it’s important that we find the silver lining where we can really enjoy the little moments and the simple joys of time spent together with friends and family.”

Rucker was originally set to be joined by Lady A for the performance, but the trio cancelled their appearance prior to the CMA Awards due to someone in the band’s immediate family being diagnosed with COVID-19. While the band members themselves tested negative, they wanted to play it safe by staying home.

“Out of caution and love for everyone involved with the CMAs, we’ve decided to stay home from the awards tonight,” they wrote in a statement on Twitter.

The performance of “Beers And Sunshine” is one of two for Rucker tonight. He’s also performing “In the Ghetto” as a tribute to Mac Davis with his awards show co-host Reba McEntire.

Co-hosted by Darius Rucker and Reba McEntire, the 54th Annual CMA Awards aired live on ABC from Nashville’s Music City Center on November 11.
