Garth Brooks kicked off his Dive Bar Tour in Chicago Monday night (July 15), taking over the tiny (for him) Joe’s on Weed St. and sending a song out to fans at home on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Going back to his barroom roots, the country legend delivered a rollicking set in front of just 400 fans — just a few less than the 70,000 or so he’s averaging on each night on his current Stadium Tour. The limited run of small clubs is a celebration of Brooks’ new “Dive Bar” duet with Blake Shelton, but one of the highlights of this night was “Baby, Let’s Lay Down and Dance.”

Beamed across the whole nation on Kimmel, Brooks packed his whole band onto the small stage and still found room for his supersized personality, filling the track with shouts and hollers and bringing the crowd right into the action. Just before the show, he posted about how good it felt to be back in a club atmosphere.

More of Brooks’ Chicago Dive Bar Tour kickoff hit Jimmy Kimmel Live! Tuesday night (July 16), and Brooks has six more “Dive Bar” shows in the works — but the details on those haven’t yet been announced. Stay tuned for more info.
