Lauren Alaina Reveals More Details on Upcoming Movie Role

Yes, Lauren Alaina can officially add actress to her résumé as she recently filmed as a lead in an upcoming movie named after her new album, Road Less Traveled. The project came about in an entirely unique and unexpected way, as it fell into the Georgia native’s lap at just the right time.
“Craziest thing ever. So I said I wanted to get into acting and all of a sudden I have a movie. I don’t know how that happened… (pausing) You know what I want? A million dollars a day for the next year. I’m just kidding,” she said with a laugh during a recent interview with Sounds Like Nashville and other media. “Anyway, it actually was just totally random how it happened. This production company went to my label and said ‘Hey, we’re interested in doing this idea where we want to take and artist and make a movie with them and kind of cross promote’ and somehow I got picked. I don’t know how that happened. There are like 50 artists on Universal’s roster, so thank you guys. But I think because I was one of their artists who was interested in acting and that it was just a natural fit. It wasn’t like I was…I didn’t even really audition for it. They kinda just came up and approached me and asked if I would be interested in it and then I was like ‘Yes’ and then it happened. It’s crazy.”
Lauren played a major role in deciding what the movie was about as well as selecting songs for the soundtrack, which features tracks from her new project.
“I was involved in the writing process of the movie and obviously in the acting process and the editing and the music part we used five of the songs throughout the movie from my album and I got to name it ‘Road Less Traveled.’ It’s kind of one of those things where you’re like, ‘Is this actually happening?’ I have a movie named after my album. And it was fun,” she reflected.
The romantic-comedy stars Lauren as 26-year-old songwriter Charlotte, who lives in Los Angeles after leaving her small town. As she prepares for her wedding, Charlotte must head home to prepare and according to Alaina, “craziness” happens.
“She’s kind of like me, but not like me, which helped because I don’t know how I would’ve done with a role where I’m supposed to be like a British woman married with kids,” joked the singer, who hopes to pursue acting part-time. “I loved it and I think it’s a way for me to be able to entertain and to tie in the music. It really worked out well that we were able to do the music with the movie as well, so it’s cool.”
The experience was a long-lasting learning experience for Alaina, who is taking some of what she gathered into other aspects of her life.
“It just showed me that also pushing yourself is a good thing because I’ve never really acted and in my first acting job I was the lead actress in a movie which was pretty intense but it was fun and I did it. I had a great group of actors around me that helped me to be better. It’s like tennis, if you have a good tennis partner you get better naturally so it was good and a huge learning experience for me and I can’t wait to do more.”
