Maren Morris and John Mayer took to the GRAMMY stage for a performance of Morris’ massive hit, “The Bones.” The duo’s performance chemistry was on point as Morris led on vocals and Mayer let his guitar skills do the talking.
Ahead of taking the stage, Morris called the collaboration “kismet.” “He’s just smart as a whip. He is also really, really thoughtful and he internalizes every other word he says. I feel like it’s kind of adorable,” she told PEOPLE. “He’s been just so respectful and complementary to my music over the years. We actually met at the Grammys a couple of years back, so for him to join us on ‘The Bones’ here, again at the Grammys, feels kind of kismet.”
Morris’ performance marks her third on The Recording Academy’s annual show. She serves as a nominee tonight for Best Country Song with her chart-topping crossover smash, “The Bones.” The Texas native is already a GRAMMY winner, taking home Best Country Solo Performance for “My Church” back in 2017.
Her appearance on the GRAMMYs tonight comes just nine days before her first born, Hayes Andrew, turns one. She and husband Ryan Hurd welcomed the little one on March 23, 2020, just weeks after the COVID-19 pandemic shut the world down. The pandemic not only changed the songstress’ birthing plans, but also her touring plans. Morris recently revealed that her rescheduled RSVP Tour would be cancelled. After plotting the trek for 2020 after maternity leave, Morris postponed the dates until 2021, but inevitably decided to call them off. As a consolation, she did reveal that she’s been working hard on new music which will be the follow-up to her critically-acclaimed GIRL record.
