Country star Maren Morris has never been afraid to voice her stance on America’s political issues, and after the frightening events in Washington D.C. Wednesday (January 6), she opened up on once again.
Offering her perspective on the ugly and unprecedented storming of the nation’s Capitol building by supporters of President Donald Trump — which were provoked by the President himself — the singer tried to frame the scene through the eyes of her infant son, Hayes, who was born in March of 2020.
“Today is gonna be hard to shake,” the 30 year old Texas native wrote. “Something my WW2 fighting Paw-Paw never told me about, something my parents never had to go through… thinking about how I will tell my son about this one day.”
Morris and husband Ryan Hurd welcomed Hayes just as the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the U.S., so they’ll likely have a lot to tell him about. And although Morris has often spoken up against discrimination and political division publicly — even using her Female Vocalist of the Year win at the CMA Awards to advocate for black female voices in country music — she’s also done so with her music. In October, she released the thoughtful tune “Better Than We Found It,” along with a heartfelt letter to Hayes.
As the Capitol riot continued on Wednesday, Maren Morris also took a swipe at some of the wives of her fellow country stars for their controversial social media posts.
