Morgan Wallen confirmed the rumors that started off as a joke and put fans online in a frenzy earlier this year, announcing that his second album will indeed be a double-length effort.

Sharing the news on Wednesday night just after winning New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards, Wallen revealed that his new project is called Dangerous: The Double Album, and it will feature twice as much music as a normal album release.

Out January 8 after nearly three years of work, the set will feature 32 tracks in total — including his current hits “More Than My Hometown” and “7 Summers.” Previously released tracks “This Bar,” “Heartless” (his collaboration with Diplo) and Wallen’s cover of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” will also be included, and three new ones will be released when presales for the album start November 20 — “Still Goin’ Down,” “Somebody’s Problem” and “Livin’ The Dream.”

Much of the project was co-written by Wallen with hit makers like Ashley Gorley, Shane McAnally, Hillary Lindsey, Rhett Akins and Lee Thomas Miller — as well as fellow artists Eric Church and Isbell — and the breakout talent says he just couldn’t resist the double-album temptation.

“As y’all may have heard, I announced a double album last night, and I couldn’t be more excited about it,” Wallen writes in a press statement. “The ‘double album’ idea started off as just a joke between me and my manager because we had accumulated so many songs over the past couple of years. Then quarantine hit, and we realized it might actually be possible to have enough time to make it happen. I also ended up writing quite a few more songs during the quarantine with some of my good buddies.

“After a few months of production and fine tuning, I am so proud of what we came up with,” he goes on. “I know 32 (eventual) songs sounds like a lot to digest, but I truly did my best to make sure there’s not a song that I would press ‘next’ on. I also wanted the songs to speak to multiple phases of life and have multiple different sounds based on my influences and based on what I enjoy. The three songs that we will put out next week will hopefully encapsulate a lot of the project for you and hold you off until January. Thank y’all!!”

Wallen released the mini-movie short film for “7 Summers” earlier this week, and also performed “More Than My Hometown” on the 54th Annual CMA Awards Wednesday night (November 11). He took home New Artist of the Year on the show and is up for two more awards at the American Music Awards later this month.
