Rapper Nelly Is Going Country

Here’s some shocking news for you… Rapper Nelly is going country!

In an interview with Billboard, the rapper’s new manager J. Erving opened up about next chapter in Nelly’s career.

“He’s a free agent on the label side now, and is working on a country-based ‘Heartland’ EP, which should be really interesting.”

This wouldn’t be first time the Texas native has delved into the world of country. He helped Florida Georgia Line with a remix of their hit song, “Cruise” in 2013 and featured Tim McGraw in his 2004 song “Over and Over.”

“He may be one of the first hip-hop artists to jump into that space in an authentic way with Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, so we think he has an opportunity to grow that base even more,” Erving continued.

Going country seems to be a growing trend for artists outside the genre. Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler is also working on a country album and was recently signed to Big Machine Label Group.
