Carrie Underwood came away victorious when she won the award for Female Video of the Year at the 2018 CMT Music Awards for “The Champion.”

Underwood gave husband Mike Fisher a kick peck on the cheek as she made her way to the stage, with the camera panning to Kelsea Ballerini bopping along to the song as it played over the speakers.

“Thank you so much. First and foremost thank you God for all of us that are lucky enough to sit over here and do what we get to do and thank you God for you guys, the fans,” Underwood said gratefully as she accepted her award. “Thank you CMT, thank you everybody all of our fans, you guys really are the reason we get to do what we get to do and whoever went and voted for anybody just thank you for just taking the time.”

She also acknowledged her costar Ludacris and everyone who participated in the video that highlights the strength in the every day heroes. “Thank you Ludacris for wanting to inspire. It took a whole team of people to put this stuff together for the video so thank you all so much. And thank you to the normal people and the heroes who are in the video for just doing what you do and for allowing us to share your story with the world.”

With all that she’s done this year, it’s no surprise that Underwood came out on top. The powerhouse singer debuted her new single “Cry Pretty” in April that’s quickly ascending the country charts, sitting pretty at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. She also rocked the CMT Awards Show stage with the lively track. Her highly anticipated new album of the same name is set to drop on Sept. 14.

There was a solid group of ladies all wanting to take home the award as the other nominees included Carly Pearce’s “Every Little Thing”, Ballerini’s “Legends”, Lauren Alaina’s “Doin’ Fine”, Maren Morris’ “I Could Use A Love Song” and Miranda Lambert’s “Tin Man” from 2017 ACM Awards.

The 2018 CMT Music Awards were hosted by Little Big Town, and aired live from the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville.
