Craig Morgan Makes First Official Statement Following Son’s Death
"We will find peace knowing that God has a bigger plan, and that one day, we’ll be reunited with him again in heaven," wrote Morgan
It’s been just over a week since the body of Craig Morgan’s son was recovered from a Tennessee lake after a tragic accident. 19-year-old Jerry Greer died after failing to resurface after a tubing accident near Mason’s Boat Dock and Marina in Humphreys County, Tennessee.
For the first time, Craig is speaking out about the loss of his son.
“The loss of our son Jerry is the hardest thing we have ever had to endure as family. Karen and I are so grateful for all of the wonderful people who have shown us unwavering support during this difficult time. There are too many to name here, but we are especially thankful for the Humphreys County Sheriff and Fire Departments, The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, and all the additional agencies and volunteers who turned out to bring our son home,” he wrote.
“We would also like to thank our friends, family members and Jerry’s friends who have all shown us an immense amount of love and support. Additionally, we cannot thank the music and outdoor communities enough for wrapping their arms around us, as well as our industry friends, fans and all those that loved our son. We are blessed by the outpouring of prayers and condolences from across the world. Jerry may be gone from this earth, and we will miss him every day, but his spirit will live on in our hearts. We will find peace knowing that God has a bigger plan, and that one day, we’ll be reunited with him again in heaven. John 3:16.”
According to reports, Jerry was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident, but it was not Coast Guard approved.
“We are not sure yet why he did not resurface, although the jacket he was wearing was not Coast Guard approved,” a representative for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency told PEOPLE at the time. “He was legal because of what he was doing and the operator had proper life jackets on board, but the jacket itself was one that many skiers and wave board users wear. As an agency, we prefer jackets that have the Coast Guard approval.”
A funeral for Jerry was held on Saturday, July 16. He is survived by parents Craig and Karen Greer, sister Aly Beaird and brother-in-law Ryan Beaird, brother Kyle Greer and fiancée Chelsea Rogers and brother Wyatt Greer.
